Small Regency Mahogany Daveport

Particuarly fine, small Regency mahogany davenport, attributed to Gillows. Unusually slender proportions, with ebony stringing and delightful brass paterea. The top section with brass gallery and leather writing slope, with later removable insert to enable a flat surface. Sliding ink tray and two brushing slides, over four drawers fitted with original brass knobs. Dummy drawers running down the left hand side. Raised on small bracket feet with brass castors. Wonderful original condition throughout.

Circa. 1815

The first Davenport is believed to be designed by Gillows, for 'Captain Davenport' as featured in Gillows Cost Books of the 1790s.
